Hydraulic Installation Tools: Hydrafast and Hydrapac®

In short: Large lockbolts need hydraulic power to install. Hydrapac® power units drive Hydrafast installation tools for fasteners from 5 mm to 28 mm, with power-saving on-demand running, plus splitters for removal.

Small fasteners can be installed with hand or pneumatic tools. Large-diameter lockbolts used in heavy engineering need far more force, which is where hydraulic tooling comes in.

What is a hydraulic power unit?

A hydraulic power unit is the driving component of a hydraulic system: a motor, a hydraulic pump and a reservoir that together generate the power to operate the installation tool.

Hydrapac® hydraulic power units

  • Compact and portable, in 220 V, 380 V and 525 V models
  • The electrics sit in a separate, dry compartment mounted externally on the motor
  • On-demand running: the motor runs while the operator works through a series of fasteners, and switches off after a preset idle time. A touch of the trigger restarts it instantly, which saves power and extends the unit’s life
  • Dual units allow two hydraulic tools to run from one unit
  • A mobile diesel version is available for sites without power

Hydrafast installation equipment

  • Installation tools with nose pieces for fasteners from 5 mm up to 28 mm
  • Close-quarter tools for tight spaces, one tool per fastener diameter from 13 mm to 28 mm
  • Collar and nut splitters, compatible with power units and hand pumps, for removing installed fasteners. One splitter handles three sizes

Why hydraulic installation matters

Correct installation is what gives a lockbolt its consistent clamp force. Calibrated hydraulic tools install every fastener the same way, quickly and safely, whether in a body-building shop, on a mine or on a rail depot floor.

Avlock supplies the full range through its tooling division, with tool hire, servicing and repairs, for the Heavy Engineering lockbolt range.
